R2D2 – a symmetric measurement of reactor neutrinos free of systematical errors
نویسنده
چکیده
We discuss a symmetric setup for a reactor neutrino oscillation experiment consisting of two reactors separated by about 1 km, and two symmetrically placed detectors, one close to each reactor. We show that such a configuration allows a determination of sin 2θ13 which is essentially free of systematical errors, if it is possible to separate the contributions of the two reactors in each detector sufficiently. This can be achieved either by considering data when in an alternating way only one reactor is running or by directional sensitivity obtained from the neutron displacement in the detector. Physics potential of the CERN – MEMPHYS neutrino oscillation project
We consider the physics potential of CERN based neutrino oscillation experiments consisting of a Beta Beam (βB) and a Super Beam (SPL) sending neutrinos to MEM-PHYS, a 440 kt wateř Cerenkov detector at Fréjus, at a distance of 130 km from CERN. The θ 13 discovery reach and the sensitivity to CP violation are investigated, including a detailed discussion of parameter degeneracies and systematica...
متن کاملNeutrinos Are Nearly Dirac Fermions
Neutrino masses and mixings are analyzed in terms of left-handed fields and a 6 × 6 complex symmetric mass matrix M whose singular values are the neutrino masses. An angle xν characterizes the kind of the neutrinos, with xν = 0 for Dirac neutrinos and xν = π/2 for Majorana neutrinos. If xν = 0, then baryonminus-lepton number is conserved. When xν ≈ 0, the six neutrino masses coalesce into three...

We present a detailed quantitative discussion of the measurement of the leptonic mixing angle sin 2θ13 with a future reactor neutrino oscillation experiment consisting of a near and far detector. We perform a thorough analysis of the impact of various systematical errors and compare the resulting physics potential to the one of planned first-generation superbeam experiments. Furthermore, we inv...

We review the status and the results of reactor neutrino experiments, that toe the cutting edge of neutrino research. Short baseline experiments have provided the measurement of the reactor neutrino spectrum, and are still searching for important phenomena such as the neutrino magnetic moment. They could open the door to the measurement of coherent neutrino scattering in a near future. Middle a...

I describe how reactor measurements of sin2 2θ13 can be improved by a near-far detector complex. I show that in the Kashiwazaki plan it is potentially possible to measure sin2 2θ13 down to 0.02. Introduction. After the successful experiments on atmospheric and solar neutrinos and KamLAND, the next step in neutrino oscillation physics is to determine θ13. It has been known that the oscillation p...
